Port Blair, March 24: During the ‘One World TB Summit’ held in Varanasi today to commemorate the World TB Day 2023, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GoI has awarded Gold Medal with Certificate for achieving more than 60% reduction in Tuberculosis incidence in the progress towards Tuberculosis Free Status to District of North & Middle Andaman, A&N Islands. The GoI has set the target of TB elimination by 2025 for which one of the criterion is reduction in the TB incidence by 80% when compared to the TB incidence in the year 2015. The Central TB Division, MoHFW has started a novel initiative to assess the progress of different Districts/States towards achieving TB Free status.

Port Blair, March 24: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has expressed deep concerns regarding the lack of commercial training centers for sports in Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, the Member of Parliament pointed out that Indian Premier League, Indian Super League, and Pro Kabaddi League have become some of the most popular sports leagues in India, generating huge revenue and offering substantial financial benefits to talented sports persons.

Port Blair, March 24: Along with the rest of the world, World TB Day-2023 was also observed in A&N Islands too today. As part of the observance, the Directorate of Health Services & UT Health Mission, A&N Administration organized a State level programme with the theme ‘Yes! We Can End TB’ at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Auditorium, PBMC here this morning. The Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Health), Shri Nikhil Kumar, IAS was the chief guest on the occasion. The programme was also attended among others by Secretary (Health), Shri Arjun Sharma, IAS, Director (Health Services), Dr. Munni Singhania, Director (ANIIMS), Dr. Pragya Sharma, Ni-Kshay Mitras, Senior Doctors of DHS/ANIIMS, Officials and staff of NHM, PRI members and students.

Port Blair, March 24: Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt Governor, A&N Islands and Vice-Chairman, Islands Development Agency attended One World TB Summit being organized at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh which was inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, in the presence of Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Hon’ble Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare and Chemical and Fertilizers, Government of India and other esteemed delegates through Virtual mode, with the aim to achieve the goal of TB Mukt Bharat by 2025.
