Port Blair, May 17: Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands and Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency, Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.) today led the islanders in paying rich tributes to Great Andamanese who were killed in the ‘Battle of Aberdeen’ fought on 17th May, 1859 between the British colonial rulers and the Great Andamanese.

Port Blair, May 17: The Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, EPF A & N Regional Office, Port Blair has asked the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, A&N Islands to cover the daily rated mazdoors working under various Divisions of Forest Department under the EPF Scheme. Swiftly acting on a copy of the letter received from D. Ayyappan, President, Andaman & Nicobar Forest Department Workers Union (CITU), the Regional Provident Fund Commissioner in a letter dated 10th May 2024 addressed to the PCCF has stated that the Forest Department which appears coverable under the EPF & Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952 is not registered thereunder.  

Port Blair, May 17: ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI), Port Blair, in collaboration with the Technology Innovation Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC), DST, New Delhi, organized a Round Table Discussion on "Climate Resilient Agriculture Technologies for Islands" on 15th May, 2024, at ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair. Agriculture in islands is particularly vulnerable to climate vagaries such as rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and sea level rise. Therefore, both adaptation and mitigation strategies are crucial for island agriculture.

Port Blair, May 17: Shri. Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS, Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, presided over the valedictory session of a 2-week Tactical Driving Course conducted for the Andaman & Nicobar Police by the expert team of Close Protection Force (CPF), National Security Guard (NSG), Manesar, Gurgaon, Haryana. The course was held in Port Blair aimed to enhance the tactical driving skills of drivers from the Andaman & Nicobar Police.

Port Blair, May 17: The 45-day Chess Summer Camp 2024 for kids which was started by Andaman and Nicobar Chess Association in collaboration with Kahlsa Public School on May 6, 2024, is currently underway at Khalsa Public Sr. Sec. School, Port Blair. The camp received a special visit from the Principal of the school, Dr. Sarabjeet Kaur Jagpal on May 17, 2024. Her presence inspired and encouraged the budding chess enthusiasts who attended the camp.
