Port Blair, May 1: The vessel MV Swaraj Dweep which sailed from Chennai is expected to arrive at Port Blair tomorrow (May 2) at 1700 hrs. She has on board, a total of 196 passengers plus 3 infants, 281 MT cargo and 22 containers.

On arrival at Port Blair, the vessel will be berthed at Haddo Wharf and passengers will be disembarked immediately.

The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has mourned the sad demise of Shri. Niranjan Lall, son of Late Baij Nath, aged 87 years, resident of Bhatu Basti, who left for heavenly abode on 01.05.2024 at GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair.

In this hour of sorrow, the Member of Parliament extended his deepest sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace for the noble soul.

Port Blair, April 30: Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt Governor, A&N Islands and Vice-Chairman, Islands Development Agency reviewed a Presentation made by Consultants on initial draft Master Plan for Great Nicobar Island Township. Holistic development of various visionary mega Projects with investments of over Rs. 75,000/- crore under Maritime India Vision 2030 including International container Transhipment Terminal (ICTT), Green Field Airport, Power Plant nearing finalisation of preparatory phase and will prove to be a Force multiplier aimed in developing A&N Islands as Economic Hub. Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary and Senior Officers of A&N Administration and A&N Forest were also present.

Trawler’s Activities Also Poses Threat to the State Animal ‘Dugong’

Shaheed Dweep, April 30: A fishing trawler has been found illegally fishing in the shallow waters of Shaheed Dweep, at a spot where there have been regular sightings of Andaman & Nicobar Islands’ state animal ‘Dugong’.

The trawler named ‘Sea Bird 1’ has been noticed in the same spot since past couple of days, continuing the fishing activities in spite of the A&N Administration’s advice to the fishing community of A&N Islands to comply with A&N Marine Fishing Rules.

Port Blair, April 30: It is a proud moment for the islanders, as Smti. M Alamelu, HGC, who is attached to the APCCF (CRZ & FC) Van Sadan, Haddo office, is the first female arbiter from these islands to be awarded the prestigious FIDE Arbiter Title. Her FIDE Arbiter Title was recognised by the International Chess Federation during the 1st FIDE Council 2024, which took place from 8-12 April 2024, and her FA title certificate was awarded today.
