Limited classrooms pose challenge to school to admit new students: Pradhan

Diglipur, April 14: The only English Medium Science Senior Secondary School of the region is helpless in the new Academic session in admitting new students to class 6th, who are coming from different parts of North Andaman, after completing their primary Education at their native villages. The parents are exerting pressure on the school from every possible resource to get their children admitted but the school authorities express their inability. The disappointed parent told media that the school authorities are saying that the admissions have already reached the maximum capacity and they have no more room left to accommodate more students now onwards.

Port Blair, April 14: The National Students Union of India State President, Shri. M.A Sajid on Monday highlighted the matter of scam and corruption held in PST and GTT Direct/Permanent recruitment in the year 2013 to 2016.

In a letter addressed to the Superintendent of Police, Crime Bureau of Investigation, Mr. Sajid said that as per the Recruitment Rules, it is essential for a candidate to have studied in the concern medium of language upto secondary level, which is still the same as of date without any changes.

Port Blair, April 14: CPI (M) has strongly opposed the proposal currently underway for establishment of Deemed University in Andaman & Nicobar Islands.  In a letter sent to the Lt Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, with copies to Union Minister for Education and others, Shri D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M), A & N State Organising Committee said that it has come to the notice of CPI (M) that a proposal is under active consideration of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration and Govt of India for establishment of a Deemed University on de novo basis for Andaman & Nicobar Islands.  He said that the documents with the Party reveal that the proposed Deemed University will be established under the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Legal Education Society. The said society, registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, was formed to run the Andaman Law College.

Port Blair, April 14: The Kesaria Hindu Vahini Trust today started the most awaited project of Temple Cleanliness Drive. The very first temple was Muthu Mariamman Temple, Jirkatang today. At the early hours today, members of KHV reached the temple premises and started cleaning the surroundings of the temple.

Port Blair, April 14: Together with the rest of the country, the A&N Police Fire Service is observing the Fire Service Week from 14th to 20th April this year. The Theme for this year is “Awareness in fire safety for growth of national infrastructure (AGNI)”. The Fire Service Week is organized every year in memory of a major fire incident that occurred on 14th April 1944 at “Victoria Harbour” in Mumbai, in which 336 persons died and 1040 were injured. Out of 336 who died, 68 were Officers and Jawans of Mumbai Fire Brigade. The tragedy occurred when a ship namely “SS FORT STRIKINE” loaded with explosive materials exploded while berthing at Jetty causing fire in several other vessels berthed in the wharf.
