Port Blair, March 6: A three day skill development training programme on “Quality Control & Quality Assurance” was organised for the APWD Engineers in association with Engineers Development Council, New Delhi, in the Training Hall of Chief Engineer’s Office from 04 – 06 March, 2013. The Programme was concluded with a simple function today wherein Er. P.K. Singh, Chief Engineer - cum - Secretary (PWD) was the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Engineer expressed that the programme would positively enrich the knowledge of participants in the field of Performance of concrete with binary and ternary Cement blends, Readymixed concrete etc. and asked the participants to take advantage of this opportunity for developing their skills in the field of Quality Control and quality assurance

Eminent speaker like Shri Ramprakash Sejwal elaborately explained the subject matters in a plain and understandable manner. The subjects which were highlighted and discussed were Chemical Admixtures, Self compacting steel reinforced fibre concrete, Deterioration of reinforced concrete in sewer environment, Non- Destructive methods of concrete testing and procedure for aggregate inspection etc.

In all 14 Assistant Engineers and 14 Junior Engineers participated in this training programme.  

 

Port Blair, March 6: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM has approved the lifting of ban on transportation of poultry and poultry products like live chicken, dressed chicken, poultry eggs, processed poultry products etc. from Kolkata, West Bengal to A&N Islands by airlines and ships with immediate effect. The ban was imposed in January 2008, when there was an outbreak of Avian Influenza in two districts of West Bengal. 

Transportation of poultry and all poultry products from Kolkata, West Bengal to these Islands by airlines and ships or by any other means of transport was thus banned to check the entry of Avian Influenza into the Islands.

Now since the said areas have been declared free from the disease, the ban was lifted. The lifting of ban on transportation of poultry products from Kolkata is likely to bring down the prices of poultry products in the Islands. 

 

 Port Blair, March 6: The Chairman, Board of Directors & Staff of Andaman & Nicobar state Cooperative Bank Ltd. will be organising a seminar on ‘Women Empowerment’ on the occasion of International Women’s Day on Saturday 9th March 2013 at 10.30 am at Anarkali Municipal Ground, Port Blair. 

The Lt. Governor, Lt. Gen. Retd) Bhopinder Singh will be the Chief Guest on the occasion.
