Port Blair, Jan 28: Impressive parade, colourful cultural programme, presentation of medals and Lt. Governor’s Commendation Certificates marked 75th Republic Day celebration in A&N Islands yesterday. The main function for the Republic Day was held at the Marina Park road stretch wherein the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands & Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency, Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.) unfurled the National Flag. The function was attended among others by Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS, CINCAN, Air Marshal Saju Balakrishnan, AVSM, VM, DGP, Shri Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS, Chairperson, PBMC, Smti S Selvi, Senior Officers of Defence & Civil Administration and public representatives.     

Port Blair, Jan 28: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands for an early execution of stage- II proposal of Rutland water supply project.

In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, the Member of Parliament mentioned that the successful completion of Stage-I in December 2021 marked a major milestone in addressing the water needs of Port Blair City. The project delivered a crucial 6.60 Million Litres of water daily from Rutland to Pongi Balu – Dhanikhari Dam, providing a respite to the growing demand for water.

Port Blair, Jan 28: Mr. Vishal Jolly, National Executive Member, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Former State President BJP-ANI, has submitted a petition to The Secretary Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission for the State of Goa and UTs (“JERC”), Haryana, expressing grave concerns and strong objections regarding the proposed tariff hike outlined in Petition No. 119/2024 before the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission for the State of Goa and Union Territories.

Port Blair, Jan 28: A ceremonial parade was conducted to commemorate 75th Republic Day on 26 Jan 2024 at Marina Park Road, Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The parade was reviewed by Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, VSM, NM (Retd) as the Chief Guest. The parade was led by Maj Manjot Singh Bajwa of the Andaman and Nicobar Command and comprised contingents from Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and A&N Police.

Port Blair, Jan 28: The 1st Chaturanga Smart Girl 2024 Chess Tournament, organised by Andaman Nicobar Chess Association in collaboration with SURPANJALI (a cultural art forum) under the Smart Girl Project, with an aim to encourage and empower girls, began this morning at RGT Public School, Port Blair. This chess tournament is being organised for the first time in the A&N Islands exclusively for girls. Around 130 girl chess players enthusiastically participated in the event.
