Port Blair, May 28: On the auspicious occasion of World Dugong Day, 28th May 2023, the Islanders proudly celebrated the dugong day at the Flag Point in Port Blair. The program was jointly conducted by the CAMPA Dugong team of the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) and the Andaman & Nicobar Forest Department.

The event created awareness about dugongs (the state animal of Andaman & Nicobar Islands) among the audience and tourists present. Shri. Kamal Datta, IFS, Additional PCCF, Smt. S. Selvi, Chairperson, Port Blair Municipal Council, Shri. Dinesh Kannan, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests, Territorial Division, Shri. Sanjay Waradkar, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife Division), Shri. Sandeep Behera, IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Dr. Ramesh C (Scientist, WII) and Dr. Nehru Prabakaran (Scientist, WII) graced the occasion.

Port Blair, May 28: To celebrate World Turtle Day, INTACH A&N Chapter took 40 students of the Industrial Training Institute to Wandoor Interpretation Centre. There they witnessed life size models of the salt water crocodile, the Leather back and Hawksbill turtle and the Dugong, the State Animal of our islands.

Shri. Mohammed Hussain gave a lecture to the students about marine turtles and their role in the environment. It was fascinating to know a giant leatherback can weigh up to 100 kilos. The students were also shown a film on the marine world.

Port Blair, May 28: The first edition of National Schools Team Under-12 & Under-18 Chess Championships-2023 will be held at Amalorpavam Higher Sec School, Vanarapet, Pondicherry from 23-25 June 2023.

This event will serve as selection event for the World Schools Team Chess Championships scheduled to be held at Kazakhstan from 03-08 August 2023.

Port Blair, May 28:  Under the cultural exchange program of Yuva Sangam, EK Bharat Shresta Bharat, the 44 yuva with 04 faculty co-ordinators were on weeklong visit in A&N Islands. The trip was based on 05 pillars of Paryatan, Paramapara, prodyogik, pragati and paraspar sampark. The team met the Chairperson PBMC Smti. S. Selvi and Shri. Azizur Rahman- Ex. Sr. Vice Chairperson & Councillor Ward No. 06 for interaction at DBRAIT auditorium where Shri Altamash Mustafa, Nodal Officer, Yuva Sangam, EBSB were present for facilitating the Chairperson PBMC. YUVA of Jharkhand requested her presence for the next day's Swatch Bharat Abhiyan-cleaning program that was scheduled on 26th May 2023.
