Highlights Crucial Issues of ANIIMS Students and Need for Specialists’ Visit in Remote Districts

Port Blair, March 10: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma today called on Shri. Arjun Sharma, IAS, Secretary Health, Andaman and Nicobar Administration and raised some crucial issues.

He requested the Health Secretary to deploy specialist doctors such as gynaecologists and paediatricians to all regions of North and Middle Andaman, as well as Nicobar District, on a monthly rotational basis.  He said that during his visit to North and Middle Andaman as well as Nicobar District, he met with the large number of people, who had raised this demand of sending specialist doctors in their areas.

PIL to be Heard by the Division Bench of Calcutta High Court on Monday

Port Blair, March 10: The ANTCC Campaign Committee Chairman Mr. G Bhasker on Thursday filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Calcutta High Court challenging the Union of India and Others in the matter of 100% job reservation for Islanders.

A divisional bench of Calcutta High Court comprising of Hon'ble Justice Shri. Abhijit Gangopadhay and Hon'ble Justice Aniruddha Roy will be conducting the first hearing on 13th March 2023 (Monday) at 10:30 am

New Delhi, Mar. 10: Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt Governor, A&N Islands and Vice-Chairman, Islands Development Agency attended the 3rd Session of National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR) inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi today. The Lt. Governor also visited Andaman & Nicobar Administration Pavilion at National Workshop on ‘Building Local Resilience'.

Port Blair, Mar. 10: A solemn function was organized by Directorate of Art & Culture today at Chatham Memorial to commemorate the arrival of the first batch of freedom fighters of 1857 in the Islands. The Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Art & Culture, Shri Nikhil Kumar, IAS led the Islanders in paying rich tributes to the heroes of first war of Independence. The Commissioner-cum-Secretary laid wreath at the memorial as a mark of respect to the freedom fighters.

Port Blair, March 10: The Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee leaders on Friday opposed the several wrong policies executed by the Electricity Department in the Union Territory during a public hearing conducted by the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC).

NSUI State President Shri. M.A Sajid submitted his objections before the Hon'ble Member of JERC who presided over the hearing. Sajid asked the Hon'ble JERC member to visit his home for 3 hours and it will be evident that around 30 times unexpected power cuts are carried out by the Electricity Department.
