Port Blair, June 12: Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Institute of Technology (Dr.BRAIT), Old Pahargaon, Port Blair has launched web based Registration facility for students seeking admission in various discipline offered by the Institute. The application software has been hosted in State Data Center and made available through Common Service Center (eDweep Kendras).

Interested Students seeking admission in Dr.BRAIT may approach eDweep Kendras and apply online. After online registration, eDweep Kendras will issue a printed hardcopy which is to be submitted at the Institute by students. In case eDweep Kendra is not accepting application forms, the applicants may call SOVTECH office at 03192-259200 or Helpline Numbers- 03192-259027/028/029.

It is brought to the notice of the general consumers and government departments that M/s. Powergrid Corporation of India Ltd., will carry out tower erection work at Dandus Point for replacing existing 33 KV main transmission from Bambooflat 20 MW IPP Power House to Garacharma Sub-Station (Panther-I & Panther-II) which was inundated in the sea during the devasted tsunami of 2004. Due to this reason, if required there shall be one hour rotational load shedding in Port Blair and South Andaman area on 14.06.2013, 15.06.2013 and 16.06.2013 from  0730 hours to 1300 hours on as and when required basis.

Port Blair, June 11: A protest was staged by the students of Govt. Sr. Sec. School Manglutan today, demanding upgradation of Arts Stream in Bengali Medium. The students took to the streets as a mark of protest, shouting slogans to fulfil their demands.

The School has three mediums of learning i.e. Hindi, Tamil and Bengali. While the Directorate of Education had introduced Arts in Class XI & XII, the medium of learning was restricted to Hindi. Due to this, students of Bengali Medium were either forced to study in Hindi Medium in the same school or shift to Rabindra Bangla Vidyalaya.

The protest started today at 7.30 am and was over by 10.30 am after the Director of Education (I/c) Dr. R. N. Prasad reached the spot and assured to look into the issue. The Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray had also reached the spot after he learnt about the strike.

Port Blair, June 11: In an exceptional display of surgical skill, Dr. Soumen Dey, MCH (Urology) & Dr. Vidyanand, MS (Laparoscopic Surgeon) has removed a big stone of size 5x3.5 cm from a kidney of an elderly female. The surgery was conducted at Chakraborty Multi Specialty Hospital, Dollygunj, Port Blair. 

In a communication, Dr. Sudip Chakraborty told Andaman Chronicle that both the surgeons showed enormous patience to remove such a big stone without sacrificing the kidney which bears it.  Dr. Chakraborty has congratulated both the surgeons for such a unique feat.

Port Blair, June 11: A delegation of Government Employees Federation, A&N Islands led by its President Shri K.P. Kannan met Smti Rina Ray, Principal Secretary (Health) A&N Administration and submitted a memorandum of charter of demands pertaining to Health Department.

The demands consisted of Grant of Patient Care Allowance and Hospital Care Allowance at double rate to all eligible staff of Health Department from 01.09.2009.  Promoting Field Workers of NMEP/NFCP into the post of Surveillance Worker/ Head Worker of Health Department. Granting of Higher Scale of Pay of Rs. 4,000-6000/- (Pre-revised) to Cooks of Health Department at par with their counterparts working in APWD. Restructuring of cadre of Ophthalmic Assistant and Senior Ophthalmic Assistant of Health Department.

The Principal Secretary (Health) discussed the demands in detail and assured the delegation to take appropriate action to fulfil the demands, said a communication today.
