Port Blair, June 16: There are many poor parents in my ward, who have approached me time and again asking me to get their children admitted in Govt. Demonstration Multipurpose School (GDMS), Middle Point. These poor parents cannot afford to send their children to private schools and since admission in govt. aided schools and govt. schools in and around my ward is difficult, the only hope they have is to get their children admitted in GDMS, said the Ward Councillor Shri Aziz-ur-Rehman today while talking to Andaman Chronicle today.

In this regard the Councillor had called upon the Principal Secretary (Education), A&N Administration on 12th June 2013, wherein he expressed the plight of the students. The Director Education (I/c), Dr. R.N. Prasad was also present in the meeting.

Rehman briefed the Principal Secretary about the problems and alleged that the classrooms meant for GDMS are being mis-utilised by the Tagore Govt. College of Education (TGCE).

He said that the topmost floor of GDMS building was allotted to TGCE many years ago as an interim arrangement to accommodate Boys Hostellers of TGCE. Today there are hardly three or four of them residing in it, but the entire floor is still occupied/ encroached by TGCE, reasons best known to the concerned Principal.

Rehman further noted that the present Boys hostellers have also become a nuisance to the school, especially to the girl students and the Head Master of GDMS being helpless in this regard. The ward councillor having explained the situation has requested the Principal Secretary to initiate immediate action to vacate the top floor of GDMS in order to accommodate pending admissions.
