Port Blair, June 16: In pursuance of its 15-point Charter of Demands, the Confederation of Central Govt. Employees & Workers, New Delhi, has given a call to all its affiliated Associations and Unions in the country to organize Mass Dharna on 20th June, 2013.  In Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, jointly with other affiliates of the Confederation like Postal Employees Unions, will organise the Mass Dharna on 20th June, 2013 from 3p.m. to 7 p.m. at Tiranga Park, Aberdeen Bazar. 

The 15-point demands include (1) Setting  up of  7th Central Pay Commission to effect wage revision of central government employees (2) immediate merger of 50% DA with pay,(3) to  withdraw PFRDA Bill from the Parliament and to ensure Pension to all government employees,  (4) remove ban on creation of posts and recruitment, (5)  stop price rise and strengthen the Public Distribution System, (6) Stop downsizing, outsourcing, contractorisation, corporatisation and privatization of Governmental functions;  (7)  Revise the OTA and Night duty allowance and clothing rates of uniforms, etc. 

Local demands like (1) To extend the upgraded Grade Pay to the left-out categories of Teachers/miscellaneous teachers viz., H.M., PETs, Librarians, CIs, PSRTs etc.  (2) Upgraded Grade Pay for LGCs and HGCs (3) Immediate Restructuring of Forest Clerical Cadre, Amalgamated Stenographic Cadre and Amalgamated Statistical Cadre, etc. will also be highlighted during the Mass Dharna.

Port Blair, June 16: The A & N State Coop. Bank, one of the nodal agencies for the disbursement of Old age pension, widow pension and handicapped pension is unable to pay the pension to the beneficiaries in time due to inordinate delay in the receipt of pension from the Social Welfare Department (Nodal department for implementing pensions).

Shri. Bhagat Singh, Chairman has therefore appealed to Secretary (Social Welfare) to look into the matter and urged for grant of pension amount to the bank on timely basis. The Chairman has also appealed for grant of pension amount as yearly amount at one go so that without any hitches and delay the payment can directly reach to the beneficiaries to avoid any difficulties.

Port Blair, June 16: The Valedictory function of Kathak workshop by Naach Academy of Performing Arts in association with INTACH was held at ASI Auditorium on 15th June 2013 wherein the Director of Art & Culture Shri. Lucas Robert distributed certificates to the participants.

On the occasion Kathak Exponent Debashree Bhattacharya presented a solo performance while the junior batch surprised the audience with their performance. The senior batch of office going ladies also presented a performance on moods of monsoon. The valedictory function was also graced by the members of EZCC and SZCC.

Car Nicobar, June 14: Acute shortage of petrol has hit the lives of people hard in Car Nicobar.  The only Petrol Pump in Kinyuka village seems to be helpless, as no consignment of petrol has arrived for the last many days.

There was long queue seen at the pump when the petrol was distributed last time but the stock was declared exhausted after few hours of distribution. At the time the concerned officials informed that the stock delivered was much less than the ordered quantity.

There are more than 3200 vehicles including the bikes and cars. Villages are scattered and people mainly depend on their own vehicle to travel as the frequency of the bus trips to different villages are limited.

An entrepreneur from Malacca Village Shri. Rufas told our reporter that the Petrol Supply to this Pump has always been less than the demand. The Tribal Council had even placed a demand before the visiting Parliamentary Committee headed by Smti. Sumitra Mahajan, few months ago to increase the capacity of the pump to meet the demand. Smti. Mahajan had assured that she would ask the Administration to solve this issue, but nothing has happened, Rufas said.

Meanwhile the Assistant Commissioner Shri. Akhil Kumar and the Block Development Officer Shri. Raj Mohan visited the pump today and asked the MD of EHL Wilson Amos, the reason for the crisis. Wilson is said to have assured that the scarcity will end soon, as the new consignment is expected in few days.

The M.A. Programme in Sociology is designed to provide advanced sociological knowledge, perspectives and skills to a wide cross section of learners, including those in remote and inaccessible areas. In terms of content it focuses on classical and advanced concepts and theories, research methods and perspectives, social issues of development, state of sociology in India, social issues of development, education transnational communities, migration, urbanisation, development of the largest section of the population and emerging concerns in contemporary society. With this backdrop the programme aims to address the various emerging concerns of the discipline taking cognizance of need of the students on the one hand and the cognitive ability of this discipline on the other.

This programme focuses on sociological theories, concepts and methods applied to comprehend these processes, Social process and their inter-linkages with the global, regional and local manifestations, Issues involved in the process of development, socio-cultural dynamics of diaspora and transnational communities,  Religion and related issues, Education, urbanisation, globalisation and such other social processes. This is a 64 credits programme with compulsory and elective courses. The student has to take compulsory courses worth of 32 credits in the first year and another 4 courses worth of 32 credits in the second year. Eligibility for MSO is Bachelor’s Degree or a higher degree from a recognized University. Port Blair, June 14: An inspection of Junglighat Mutton Market in Ward No. 7 was carried out by the Chairperson, PBMC Shri P.B. Murugan along with the Sr. Vice Chairperson, Jr. Vice Chairperson and the concerned ward councillor. After hearing the grievances of the tenants of the market, the Chairperson issued necessary directions to the concerned officials for proper cleaning of the area and also immediate repair & maintenance work of the market.

Under the influence of moderate to strong South West Monsoon current, strong Southwesterly to westerly wind speed exceeding 45 Kmph and generally rough seas likely along and off Andaman & Nicobar coast. Fishermen are advised to be cautious while venturing into the sea.
