Port Blair, April 18: A traditional Canoe Race was organised at Car Nicobar by the Nicobar Athletic Association and Tribal Council of Car Nicobar on 17th April 2013. During the inaugural function, the Deputy Commissioner (Nicobar), Shri P Jawahar and the PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively.

In his address, the DC Nicobar appreciated the efforts of the Tribal Council for organizing the race while Shri Sharma congratulated the Nicobar Athletic Association and Tribal Council for organizing the event. Sharma also appreciated the team work of the competitors, which reflected a feeling of brotherhood and wished that this be an annual event.

Among the others dignitaries present on the occasion were Bishop Rt. Rev Christopher Paul, Shri Aberdeen Blair, Chief Captain, Village Captains, officers of the Administration and a large number of villagers.

The final race was held today wherein Dy. Vice Chairman of Tribal Council, Shri A Chephas Jack graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Education Officer, Shri H Danial as Guest of Honour.

In the finals Tamalu Village was declared as the winner while villages Malaca, Kenyuka and Big Lapathy bagged 2nd , 3rd and 4th prizes respectively in category A. In category B, Mus won the first prize while Kenyuka, Tamalu and Small Lapathy villages have bagged 2nd  3rd and 4th Prizes.

Port Blair, April 18: ‘KURIVATTAM’, an action based revenge script, which talks about a life of a rowdy and life of an alcoholic’s children. It is also a blend of love story and a crispy action and also reflects brother sentiments. The movie produced by G. Karthi Kumar and Directed by K. Murganandan has been shot in Port Blair as well as at Chennai. This is the first time in Andaman that famous Tamil Folk Singer Shri. M. Rajesh who studied music at KL Music Academy (A.R. Rahaman Music academy) has sung for the film. The movie has been recorded in Mind Screen (Cinematographer Rajiv Menon”s studio).

Local artist Ganesh Andkarti Kumar is the male lead hero in the film while Swetha plays the female lead. Selvaraj from Port Blair plays the Villon while Prabakaren, Abishek, Balasaravanan, Rooban, Durairaj play support roles.

Port Blair, April 18: The Traffic Police regularly conducts checking against violation in the South Andaman District as a Part of its effort to instil road safety awareness and to bring down the number of road accidents. But, despite checking and repeated instructions published in the media, still a large number of drivers of different category of vehicles i.e. Two Wheeler, Three Wheeler, LMV, Medium, Auto Rickshaw, Buses and heavy Vehicles are found to be using mobile phone while driving, which is a violation of Traffic Rules/ Act.

The Traffic Police shall implement this rule strictly w.e.f. 22/04/2013 and violators will be challaned Rs. 100/- for dangerous driving if found talking over phone while driving.

Vehicle drivers have once again been directed not to use their mobile phones while driving failing which stringent action will be initiated against authority to suspend their driving licence. In the year 2013 to till date Traffic Police have already taken action against 150 drivers who were using mobile phone while driving.
