Port Blair, April 19: Under the leadership of Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President INTUC various unions of APWD affiliated to INTUC will stage a Dharna at Tiranga Park on 23rd April, 2013 from 8 AM to 1:30 PM. The dharna is to impress upon the authorities to meet the long pending legitimate demands of  providing regular  appointment to all DRMs / Casual / Contract/ Muster Roll workers having served for more than five years, regular appointment to compassionate ground cases, no retrenchment of workers having worked for more than 240 days, filling up of all vacant posts of work charged Belders, to do away with engagement of mazdoors through labour contracts,  to re induction of Muster Roll system for  engagements of workers, Creation of  Water Supply Division and Highway Division for employment generation and development. 

The Dharna shall be followed by a procession which will commence at about 11:30 AM from Tiranga Park and pass through Clock tower, Y Narayan Junction, Clock Tower, Model School, Bengali Club, CE APWD office and shall terminate at Gandhi Bhavan.

Port Blair, April 19: A multi-specialty Screening and Preventive Medical Camp with specialists from INHS Dhanvantari was organised by the Andaman and Nicobar Command at DHQ-9 on 12th and 13th Apr 2013.

The Andaman and Nicobar Command has been carrying out such medical and preventive health camps frequently as a part of its Community Outreach Programme. Camps held in the past include locations as diverse as Neil Island, Car Nicobar, Hut Bay, Kamorta, Nancowrey, Tarassa, Diglipur and Campbell Bay. The response of the public to the camp conducted was immensely gratifying. Medical, ENT, Dental, Mother & child care OPD services were provided. Ultrasound scanning was done at the location by the radiologist and along with antenatal scans, few serious and treatable conditions are diagnosed. INHS Dhanvantari, the medical team of the ANC has always been at the forefront of all the health related activities of the Command.

Port Blair, April 18: A Gymnasium was inaugurated in the Community Hall at New Pahargoan by Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chairman, ANCOFED Ltd. on 18th April 2013 in the presence of Shri Murugan, Chairperson, PBMC and Shri M. Arumugam, Sr. Vice Chairperson & Ward Councillor, PBMC.

Shri P.B. Murugan in his addressing the gathering detailed the developmental programmes proposed in Ward No. 18 and requested the youths to avail the facility provided by the Council. Shri Kuldeep Chairman, ANCOFED Ltd., appreciated the Council for taking up welfare / recreation action activities in activities in addition to the routine work such as Construction of Footpath, roads, sanitation, water Supply etc.

The inaugural function was attended by Smti Jameela Bibi, Shri J. Rajendran, Shri Hema Rao, Smti P. Bharati, Shri S. Muthraman, Shri G. Chandren, Councillors and officers of the Council.
