Port Blair, March 13: With the view to developing, promoting and disseminating technologies for horticulture development, the Andaman & Nicobar Administration decided to provide the extended subsidy of 80% of the total cost of each project pertaining to "Protected Cultivation" in their fields from current financial year.

The enhanced subsidy will be provided for the activities like construction of Green House Structures viz. naturally ventilated tubular structure/wooden structure; Shade net House Structures viz. Tubular/wooden structure; Plastic mulching; Plastic tunnel etc. The pattern of assistance are detailed below-

1.             Green House structure

a.             Naturally Ventilated system

i.              Tubular Structure

a) With irrigation Financial Assistance @ 80% cost subject to a maximum of Rs.748.00 per sq.mt limited to 1000 sqmt per beneficiary

b) Without Irrigation Financial Assistance @ 80% cost subject to a maximum of Rs.660.80 per sq.mt limited to 1000 sqmt per beneficiary                                                

ii)             Wooden structure Financial Assistance @ 80% cost subject to a maximum of Rs.412.00 per sq.mt limited to two units (each unit not to exceed 500 sqmt) per beneficiary.

2.             Plastic Mulching Financial Assistance @80% cost subject to a maximum of Rs.16,000.00 per ha limited to a 2ha per beneficiary.

3.             Shade Net house

i)              Tubular structure Financial Assistance @ 80% cost subject to a maximum of Rs.480.00 per sqmt limited to 1000 sq.mt per beneficiary.

a) With irrigation Financial Assistance @ 80% cost subject to a maximum of Rs. 408.00 per            sqmt limited to 1000 sq.mt per beneficiary

b) Without Irrigation Financial Assistance @ 80% cost subject to a maximum of Rs.408.00 per sqmt limited to 1000 sq.mt per beneficiary

ii)             Wooden Structure Financial Assistance @ 80% cost subject to a maximum of Rs.328.00 per sqmt limited to 5 units (each unit not to exceed 200 sqmt) per beneficiary

4.             Plastic Tunnel Financial Assistance @ 80% cost subject to a maximum of Rs.24 per sqmt limited to 1000 sqmt. per beneficiary.

Focusing on small and marginal farmers to ensure proper economic return of the farming sectors, the subsidy has been enhanced and is being provided by the convergence of National Horticulture Mission (50%) and Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) (30%).

LG announces job, cash award for kumari Deborah

Port Blair, March 12: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh has announced a job and cash award for Kumari Deborah, who had won one Silver and two Bronze medals in the 33rd Hero Asian Cycling Championship being held in Indira Gandhi Stadium Velodrome, New Delhi. A cash award of Rs 7,00,000/- has been announced for winning Silver and two bronze medals in the Asian championship besides a job for the top cyclist. The LG had already sanctioned an amount of Rs 1,25,000/- in favour of Kumari Deborah for winning 2 Gold and one Bronze medals in the National Championship during 2011-12.      

The top cyclist from Kakana village, Car Nicobar is the first girl in the history of sports of the Islands to win three medals in the Asian Cycling Championship. Ms Neeta is another girl from Car Nicobar who had won two Silver medals in the Asian Cycling Championship held in Ludhiana in 2003.

Deborah started her winning streak by winning her first Bronze medal in the junior 500 mtrs time trial event on 7th March 2013. She then went on to win her second Bronze medal in the women’s junior team sprint on Sunday. The team of Deborah and T. Manorama Devi, a Manipuri girl defeated Malaysia to bag the third place. 

The most scintillating performance of the 18 years old Deborah came on Monday, when she clinched the silver medal in the tournament. In the final of the junior women’s 200 mtrs sprint individual race on Monday, she won the silver medal. The Lt Governor has also congratulated Kumari Deborah for her commendable performance in the International sports championship and for bringing laurels to the Islands and the country as well.

Port Blair, March 12: The Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray has taken up with the issue of increasing the number of subsidized LPG cylinders from 6 to 9 per family in a year in the UT, with all concerned authorities of GOI as well as at the floor of the Lok Sabha.

In response Dr. M. Veerappa Moily, Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, GOI informed Ray that the Government has authorized Oil Marketing Companies to revise annual cap on subsidized domestic LPG cylinders from 3 to 5 for the period from 14.09.2012 to 31.03 and from 6 to 9 cylinders annually w.e.f. 01.04.2013. This will be subject to the condition that no refund will be admissible on any LPG domestic cylinders already supplied at the non – subsidized price during the period from 14.09.2012 to 17.01.2013.
